Steps Parents Need to Take for EdChoice Program

    1. Check the list of EdChoice-designated pubic schools and make sure that your child currently attends one of them. (Charter School students and incoming kindergarten students who would be assigned to one of those public schools are also eligible to apply.

    2. Review the list of participating private schools and select the one you are interested in your child attending.

    3. Call the private school that you are interested in and find out about its admission process. The school will tell you how to go about getting your child admitted and enrolled for next fall and explain any admissions requirements that the school may have. (Please understand parents are required to pay all application/registration fees at the time of applying. Fees may range anywhere from $50.00 - $200.00 per child. Parents should ask if fees can be waived or whether payment arrangements can be made.

    4. Once the private school has accepted your child for admission for next fall, you much complete and sign the 1-page EdChoice scholarship request form and submit it to the private school. The private school will then submit your childs information to the Ohio Department of Education through the secure Web-based EdChoice Scholarship application system. Students must first be accepted at a participating private school for the next school year and then apply for an EdChoice scholarship. (Parents, please request that schools financially qualify you for the EdChoic Scholarship program.)

    5. The EdChoice application period will run from April 3, 2006 through June 9, 2006.

    6. In July, the Ohio Department of Education will notify parents about whether or not their child has been awarded a scholarship.
