Dr. Hal Smith is an assistant
professor of Educational Policy at City College in New York. Dr. Smith is also
a former Harvard University W.E.B. DuBois Institute Fellow. The majority of his
work has been in higher education and in oppressed, marginalized communities as
educator, activist, and consultant.
His primary research focus is on African American education and education philosophy,
as well as the process and pedagogy of community education. Community education
is defined as the ways in which communities organize and educate themselves to
solve their problems.
