Anita Ruiz |
Ms. Ruiz has been an attorney in Philadelphia since 1993 and practices international, corporate/business, intellectual property, immigration, general, public utilities, education and family law.
Ms. Ruiz has extensive background and expertise in dealing with education policy and education reform legislative initiatives. Ms. Ruiz pursued her interest in education reform issues while working for the Honorable Dwight Evans, PA Representative – 203rd Legislative District & Chairman of Appropriations Committee (D). As a leadership member of Representative Evans‘ team, Ms. Ruiz assisted in the development and passage of PA Charter School Legislation (1997), PA Electric Deregulation Legislation (1996), Workforce Development & Economic Development Legislation (1996 – 1999), and the PA Legislative Commission on restructuring Urban Schools (1998). Ms. Ruiz, along with her legal expertise, has developed relationships with education reform organizations, Philadelphia School Board members, numerous regional employer companies, Information Technology business associations, and many other community economic development and workforce development organizations throughout the Delaware Valley.
Currently, Ms. Ruiz practices law in Philadelphia, provides consulting services to education reform organizations, businesses, and workforce development providers on a part-time basis. In addition to Ms. Ruiz’s numerous activities with community organizations in the Delaware Valley, she is a professional figure skating coach and provides coaching services to urban youth skating programs at city recreation rinks.
Ms. Ruiz serves as a founding
board member of the Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO), board member
of the Metropolitan Career Center (MCC), Volunteer Political Committee chairperson
for the Philadelphia Race for the Cure, and as a founding member of the board
of governors for the Philadelphia High School Academies: Information Technology
Academy.
