Deborah McGriff has been called "one of America’s premier educators." Dr. McGriff is currently President of Edison Teachers College, a subsidiary of Edison Schools. Edison Schools, formerly The Edison Project, is a privately sponsored, national effort creating innovative schools that provide all students, regardless of economic or social circumstance, with a world-class education.
Deborah was the first female
general superintendent in the history of the Detroit Public Schools. During
her tenure, student test scores increased, the dropout rate declined, more than
25 schools of choice were opened, and decentralization expanded.
