Resource Development, Director

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Director of Resource Development will manage and implement an annual fundraising plan to achieve budget goals and develop/implement an external major donor prospect communications plan to improve awareness of, and investment in, BAEO�s work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
� Manage responsibilities required to meet budget goals, including writing and submitting proposals and grant requests, coordinating timely production of reports and other related materials as required by the grant, monitoring grant status and conducting all follow-up as necessary.
� In consultation with the board and appropriate staff members, set annual fundraising and external communications goals and priorities, monitoring and ensuring implementation of the team�s work plans.
� Grow and strengthen BAEO�s foundation, individual and corporation fundraising programs, including researching/cultivating current and prospective funders, preparing briefs and background materials for proposals and donor/prospect visits by board members, and attending foundation, corporation, and partner visits as necessary.
� Report regularly on foundations and corporate fundraising progress, including updating the Board of Directors.
� Diversify sources of income through collaborative fundraising with partners.
� Develop and implement a donor/major donor prospect annual Communications Plan.
� Develop correspondence and communication materials to seek support from foundations, corporations and individuals.
� Implement a database management system for recording donor/major donor contacts.
� Plan, organize, and implement major donor events throughout the country.
� Identify, cultivate and work with individuals to assist major donor recruitment programs/activities.
Job Requirements:
� B.A./B.S. degree.
� 5-10 years of development experience with some senior level development management experience.
� A creative self-starter who is able to work with a variety of different people in a fast paced environment.
� Excellent oral and written communication skills, with experience writing and editing grant proposals and correspondence.
� Computer skills: expertise in Word and Excel. Knowledge of Raisers Edge is a plus.
� Demonstrated flexibility, initiative and resourcefulness.
� Desirable skills and experience: familiarity with and commitment to K-12 education reform with a focus on parental choice for low income and working class black families and fundraising experience with educational nonprofit organizations.
