BAEO Urges Senate to Confirm John King for Education Secretary
Jacqueline Cooper, president of the Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO), has released the following statement on the confirmation of John King for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.
"John is a very gifted and well-respected education leader with a proven track record of advancing excellence and equity for every student across the country. Today, largely due to his leadership, the department is more committed than ever to ensuring all children, regardless of race or economic status, have access to high-quality teachers and great schools.
"There will be no better friend than John to low-income and working-class Black families who want what's best for their children. He's a strong supporter of parental choice policies and education reform initiatives that will lead to the closure of the achievement gap.
"BAEO fully supports John's nomination to lead the Department of Education under President Obama. We urge swift confirmation by the Senate."
