Blog: Tennessee BAEO Chooses 901
The Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO) is an advocacy organization whose mission is to increase access to high-quality educational options for Black children by actively supporting transformational education reform initiatives and parental choice policies that empower low-income and working class Black families. BAEO prides itself on having become the preeminent national organization for Black people who support parental choice in education and who are unwavering in the belief that bold, decisive education reform programs are urgently needed to address the educational crisis that exists in our communities.
BAEO knows that choice is not a sufficient end in itself; rather it is a means to ensure that low-income and working class Black parents have the power to gain access to quality educational options, and that power is the key to sustaining effective reforms in this country. BAEO envisions a future where Black families regardless of income have the freedom to choose high-quality schools for their children, and our children are thus free to succeed.
BAEO is organized to drive the enactment, protection, or expansion of transformational education reform and parental choice programs, and do so by empowering Black parents and communities and building a base of support for reforms within the Black community.
Tennessee BAEO is led by State Director, Mendell Grinter. BAEO is in Memphis, specifically, to engage our communities and teach them about high-quality educational options currently available to them as well as building relationships. In the upcoming legislative session, Tennessee BAEO will focus on passing the Tennessee Opportunity Scholarship Act, which will allow thousands of low-income families a new choice on how and where their children are educated.
