Dear supporter of K-12 schools:
Your school and thousands of other private and public schools across Minnesota need your help in supporting an important new bill just introduced at the Legislature. Our Coalition has been successful in introducing a bill called the Equity and Opportunity in Education Scholarship Tax Credit (House File 1963 /Senate File 1694 ). The bill would provide an investment tax credit to businesses and individuals who donate to scholarship granting organizations, benefiting K-12 students at public and private schools statewide. Similar bills in other states have generated millions of new dollars for K-12 student scholarships.
Now is the time to act by contacting your legislators and members of the Legislative tax committees. Attached is a sample letter you can draw upon and personalize when contacting your representatives via e-mail, mail or telephone. Please don�t copy the letter verbatim; legislators aren�t persuaded by form letters. What they need to hear in a personal way is how increased support for K-12 scholarships will help you and your family, and perhaps your business and community.
Since legislators represent the needs and interests of their constituents, they aren�t likely to support this important new bill unless they hear from you and other K-12 supporters. So please take a few minutes today to contact your representatives and those on the tax committees.
